About Ramelle

Ramelle's background is ...well, varied. Born in Mississippi, he has lived and worked around the world as a foreign and war correspondent for TIME magazine in Central and South America, Korea, Japan and Eastern Europe. He has also been a naval officer, deep sea diver, union organizer, farmer, newspaper publisher and editor, photographer and college professor.

A professional hypnotist for some thirty years, his interest in hypnosis dates back to the time when, as a young Naval Officer, his ship was at anchor in Norfolk harbor and a group of sailors returned from shore liberty with tales of a stage hypnotist they had seen at a theater. Then, as now, a staunch skeptic, Ramelle assured the sailors than the hypnotist's subjects were shills, that it was all phony.

He none the less dropped by the theater the next night and after witnessing the show was even more convinced that it was fake. But, curious and determined to confirm his doubts, he went the next day to the library, the first step in years of study and practice that turned him into an accomplished hypnotist.

While there is still much mystery and lack of understanding surrounding hypnosis, there is increasing evidence--such as this recent report--that there is much potential for the use of hypnosis in medicine.

Ramelle conducts training in self-hypnosis and has found that some people can use self-hypnosis to quit smoking, remove warts, banish migraine headaches, improve their concentration and cope better with stress and tension.

While he is eager to see more serious research and investigations into possible medical uses for hypnosis, Ramelle freely admits that his audiences' obvious enjoyment is richly rewarding. "The most treasured compliment I ever received", he recalls, "was from Brother Joseph, Principal of Seton-LaSalle Regional High School near Pittsburgh. Openly skeptical before the show, as we returned to his office after the show Brother Joseph observed: 'It must please God to hear his children laughing so'."
